The Modi Government has completely failed in safeguarding the people from the second wave of COVID-19. Various High Courts, including the Supreme Court, have bitterly criticised the Central Government for it’s failure in this regard. However, the Modi government is working very efficiently in privatising the Government and Public Sector Undertakings. The latest is the privatisation of the Ordnance Factories. The 44 Ordnance Factories in the country are functioning under the Ordnance Factories Board, under the control of the Ministry of Defence.
Now, the Ordnance Factories Board will be eliminated. In it’s place, seven corporations will be formed under the Companies Act. The corporatisation of the Ordnance Factories is being done with the sole intention to hand them over to the big corporates. Since the multinational companies are having the state-of-the-art technologies with them, ultimately these Ordnance Factories will go into the control of the multinational corporations. The Defence Workers Federations are organising countrywide “Burning of Effigy” agitation on 19.06.2021. BSNLEU strongly supports the struggle of the Defence Workers Federations.
The Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions(CTUs) has called on the working class to join the “Save Agriculture – Save Democracy Day”, being organised by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha on 26.06.2021. On this day, the ongoing Kisan’s agitation will be completing 7 months. Nearly 500 Kisan’s have died so far in this agitation.
It is known to everyone that, it was on 26th June, 1975, that emergency was declared 46 years ago. Emergency was declared by the then authoritarian Indira Gandhi to suppress the voices of the opposition. Today, the BJP government is resorting to the same methods adopted by Indira Gandhi to suppress the increasing opposition to it’s policies.
In fact, the country is passing through an undeclared emergency now. The CEC meeting of BSNLEU, held at Chennai has decided to participate in the calls given by the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). Hence, the CHQ of BSNLEU calls on the circle and district unions to actively participate in the “Save Agriculture – Save Democracy Day” to be organised by the SKM and CTUs on 26-06-2021.

It is shocking to note that, the prices of cooking oil have more than doubled in the last one year. Food Secretary, Sudhanshu Pandey has said that, the prices of edible oil has increased by 62%. The rise in retail price of edible oils — mustard, vanaspati, soya, palm, sunflower and groundnut — is a blow to millions of poorer households in the country that have been financially hit during the second Covid-19 wave. The prices of diesel and petrol have reached a record high, fuelling all round price rise.
