The Government and Ministers are repeatedly declaring from the roof-top that, BSNL is a national asset of strategic importance and that it would not be privatised / disinvested. At the same time, the government has already decided to handover BSNL’s 14,917 mobile towers to the private. It is also stated in the National Monetisation Policy that, the mobile towers and optic fibre of BSNL and MTNL would be handed over to the private. Under these circumstances, the BSNL Corporate Office has issued a letter on 20.06.2022, endorsing the government’s (Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Disinvestment – DIPAM) order dated 01st June, 2022. As per this order of the DIPAM, the government has given powers to the Board of Directors of all the Public Sector Enterprises for recommending or for undertaking the process for disinvestment. It is also stated in that letter that, the disinvestment can be by way of strategic disinvestment or sale of minority shares. The Corporate Office order dated 20.06.2022 has also directed all the Chief General Managers to take necessary action to implement the decision of the government, communicated through the above mentioned DIPAM letter. BSNLEU is telling from the beginning that, BSNL will also be privatised one day, if powerful struggles are not organised against the government’s policy of destroying the Public Sector, through disinvestment and privatisation.
