World over, the working class has conducted heroic struggles and shed their blood, to achieve the goal of “8 hour work per day”. The May Day martyrs who sacrificed their lives in Chicago, raised the demand of “8 hour work, 8 hour sleep and 8 hour entertainment”. Thus, it is only through struggles and sacrifices that, the working class has achieved the 8 hour working day, which comes to 48 hours of work per week. A few months back, Indian industrialist, Narayanamurthy, made a statement that, the working hours in India should be increased to 70 hours per week. This view of Narayanamurthy came under severe criticism. Now, S.N. Subramanian, the Chairman of L&T, has advocated that, Indian workers should work for 90 hours per week. He has also stated that, workers should work on Sunday also. To strengthen his argument for increasing the working hours to 90 hours per week, the L&T Chairman has asked, “how long can you stare at your wife?” These big corporates like Narayanamurthy and S.N. Subramanian want to take the world back to the olden days, when workers were forced to work in the factories from sun-rise to sun-set. But, the working class will not allow that to happen.

The joint Circle Executive Committee meeting of BSNLEU and AIBDPA, NTR circle, is held today in the BSNLEU office of NTR circle. Com.Sishodia and Com.R.C. Malhotra, presided over the meeting. Circle Executive Committee members of BSNLEU and AIBDPA participated. Com.R.S. Chauhan, Circle Secretary, BSNLEU, welcomed everyone and briefly spoke on the agenda items. Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, BSNLEU, delivered the inaugural address. In his speech, the General Secretary, spoke in detail on the issues of non-settlement of Wage Revision, pension revision of the retired employees, the threat of implementing 2^nd VRS in BSNL, complaints regarding quality of BSNL’s 4G service and other issues. Com.Sishodia and R.C. Malhotra, spoke on the problems being faced by the pensioners. Finally, the General Secretary replied to the issues raised in the Executive Committee members. In the meeting, three office bearers are elected against the vacancies in BSNLEU’s circle union. The meeting ended with raising of slogans.
