Robert Francis Prevost, born in Chicago, United States, has become the New Pope. He has taken the name Pope Leo XIV. Yesterday, Pope Leo XIV addressed a massive gathering of 2 lakh people who participated in the mass in St. Peter’s Square. During his speech, the New Pope gave a call for stopping the exploitation of nature. He also called on to stop the marginalising of the poor people.

The CHQ has issued circular no.28, communicating the decisions taken in the Kolkata CEC meeting of BSNLEU, held on 14th & 15th May, 2025. The Hindi version of this CHQ circular is enclosed. All circle and district unions are requested to implement the decisions of the CEC meeting.

The Central Executive Committee meeting of BSNLEU was held at Kolkata on 14th & 15th May, 2025. The unanimous decisions taken in the CEC meeting, after detailed discussions, are communicated to the circle and district unions today, through the CHQ circular no.28. All the circle and district unions are requested to implement the decisions taken in the CEC meeting.

The Joint Platform of the Central Trade Unions held their meeting at New Delhi on 15.05.2025. Taking the abnormal situation prevailing in the country, after the terrorist attack at Pahalgam, the meeting decided to defer the General Strike to 09.07.2025. At the same time, the meeting decided to give call for organising protest demonstrations on 20.05.2025. In accordance with this, BSNLEU calls on our circle and district unions to organise lunch hour protest demonstrations on 20.05.2025 on the following demands:-

 

  1. Opposing the anti-worker and pro-corporate 4 Labour Codes.
  2. Immediate settlement of Wage Revision in BSNL – settlement of the burning problem of stagnation.
  3. Launching of good quality 4G service by BSNL.
  4. Opposing 2nd VRS.
  5. Demanding Review of Restructuring and sanctioning of sufficient posts in the Non-Executive cadres.
  6. Opposing mindless outsourcing of BSNL’s works.
  7. Implementation of New Promotion Policy for the Non-Executives.
  8. Immediately fill-up the 8,906 vacant Non-Executive posts.
  9. Implementing Minimum Wage, EPF and ESI for the contract workers.

A memorable programme is organised at Kolkata today, in celebration of the Birth Centenary of our beloved leader, Com.Moni Bose. The meeting took place in the Moulali Yuva Kendra at Kolkata. A large number of comrades together with the family members of Com.Moni Bose, attended this celebration. Com.Sujoy Sarkar, Circle Secretary, West Bengal circle, welcomed everyone. Com.Animesh Mitra, President, BSNLEU, presided over the function. The programme started by the leaders garlanding the photo of Com.Moni Bose. Thereafter, the house stood in silence for a minute and paid respectful homage to Com.Moni Bose. A Souvenir, brought out by the CHQ of BSNLEU, was released in this function. Senior leader, Com.J. Sampath Rao, AGS, released the Souvenir and Com.Susmita Basu, daughter of Com.Moni Bose and Dr. Gautam Basu, son of Com. Moni Bose, received the first copy. Com.A.K. Padmanabhan, Vice President, CITU, Com.J. Sampath Rao, AGS, Com.P.Abhimanyu, General Secretary, BSNLEU, Com.V.A.N. Namboodiri, former General Secretary & President, Com.Susmita Basu, Com.Anadi Sahoo, General Secretary, CITU, West Bengal and Dr. Gautam Basu, addressed the meeting.
