It is shocking to note that, the Tamil Nadu government has passed a bill in the State Assembly for increasing the working hours from 8 hrs. to 12 hrs. per day. The Industries Minister of Tamil Nadu has explained that, the Multinational Companies, which want to start new industries in Tamil Nadu, strongly demand “flexibility in working hours.” What is the meaning of “flexibility in working hours.”?  It means the employers can make the workers to work as many hours as they want. The working class, starting from the Chicago struggle, had struggled by shedding their blood world over, for achieving 8 hours working day. “8 hours work, 8 hours sleep and 8 hours entertainment” is the slogan of the martyrs of Chicago,, who sacrificed their lives for achieving 8 hours working per day. The ruling DMK government had brushed aside the opposition of even it’s own alliance partners and has passed the bill to extend the working hours up to 12 hours per day. This is condemnable. BSNLEU demands that, the Tamil Nadu government should immediately nullify the bill passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

All trade unions and associations have already rejected the exorbitantly hike of premium rate of Health Insurance Scheme. Consequent to this, Director (HR) had arranged a meeting with the Recognised Unions on 19.04.2023. Elaborate discussion took place in the meeting and ultimately it was decided not to accept the exorbitantly hike of premium from Oriental Insurance Company. Fresh quotation would be called from top ten Insurance Company in the market for further proceedings.
