Stop crushing the voices of dissent.

Once, while addressing the Parliament, the former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee famously gave the definition for democracy. He told that “the right to dissent is the essence of democracy”.  It means, in a democracy, the citizens should have the right to criticise and protest against the policies of the Government. However, the present government does not allow any criticism. It crushes all the voices of dissent. The mainstream media is blindly supporting the government, either due to fear or for favour. Still, the government does not want to allow even a single voice of dissent. The Editor-in-Chief of News Click, Prabir Purkayastha, has been arrested. All that the News Click has done is criticising “the pro-corporate and anti-people” policies of the government. Today, news has come that, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has given sanction for the prosecution of reputed writer, Arundhati Roy, for criticising the government in a public event. At the same time, the government has not taken any action against Adani, who has reportedly cheated the people and looted thousands of crores of rupees. All these are nothing but murder of democracy. Trade Union movement cannot function when even basic democratic rights do not exist. BSNLEU expresses it’s strong protest over this murder of democracy.
