Shri Somnath Chatterjee, former Lok Sabha speaker and renowned lawyer, passes away.

Shri Somnath Chatterjee, former Lok Sabha speaker, as well as one of the renowned lawyers of the country, passed away. He was 89 years old. Before becoming the  Lok Sabha speaker, Shri Somnath Chatterjee served for long years as a member of the Lok Sabha. During this period, he had effectively raised his voice in the interest of the working class. He was also one of the renowned advocates of the country. BSNLEU thankfully remembers how Shri Somnath Chatarjee argued the court case in favour of getting recognition to Com. Moni Bose. After getting elected as the General Secretary in the E3 Union's Bhopal All India Conference, Com.Moni Bose was denied recognition by the DoT,  on the plea that he was a dismissed employee. In the case filed by Com.Moni Bose, Shri Somnath Chatterjee appeared and effectively argued.  As a result of this, the DoT was compelled to grant recognition to Com.Moni Bose, as the duly elected General Secretary of the E3 union. BSNLEU pays it's respectful homage to Shri Somnath Chatterjee. The Union also conveys it's heartfelt condolences to his family members.
