PMO directs DoT to ensure salary payment to BSNL employees till June, 2019.

Media reports say that, the PMO has directed the DoT to ensure that, payment of salary is made to the BSNL employees without any delay, till June, 2019. We welcome this move of the PMO. At the same time, it is also true that, the non-payment of salaries on the due date to BSNL employees, became a very big issue. The media highlighted this issue massively. Undoubtedly, it created a very big embarrassment to the Prime Minister and to the ruling party, especially during this election season. That is why the PMO has made this intervention. While welcoming this step, we also wish to tell the PMO that, it is very important that BSNL stands on it’s own legs. For this, the DoT should ensure that BSNL immediately gets 4G spectrum. The DoT should immediately allow BSNL to monetise it’s vacant lands. The DoT should also allow BSNL to take bank loans for it’s operational expenditures. Payment of dues to BSNL, should not be unnecessarily delayed/held back by the DoT.
