Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the former trade union leader, is elected as the president of Brazil. Lula defeated the incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in the election held on 30th October, 2022. Lula got 50.8% of votes compared with 49.2% secured by Bolsonaro. The Supreme Electoral Court confirmed the election of Lula as the president of Brazil. Lula da Silva is a leftist leader. His victory consolidates a new “pink tide” in Latin America, after landmark leftist victories in Colombia and Chile’s elections.
