Implementation of Medical Insurance in BSNL and the role played by BSNLEU.
Recently, in Chennai Telephones, an employee (in Tiruvanmiyur) got a heart problem. Immediately he was admitted in Apollo hospital. Expenditure for his treatment was Rs.2 lakh. However, the medical insurance scheme implemented by BSNLEU helped that employee. In this connection, a WhatsApp message, containing details of all the efforts taken by BSNLEU, for implementing the medical insurance scheme, is being circulated in Chennai Telephones circle. Interestingly, Com.Chandrakanth, JE, who prepared this message, is not a member of BSNLEU. However, he has taken the pains to collect all the details from BSNLEU website and has meticulously prepared the message. The efforts taken by BSNLEU, to implement the medical insurance scheme, are explained as below, in the WhatsApp message:-
15.05.2021 – BSNLEU wrote letter to CMD BSNL, demanding implementation of medical insurance scheme.
17.05.2021 – Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, met Director (HR) and demanded implementation of the medical insurance scheme.
25.05.2021 - Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, again met the Director (HR) and GM (Admn.) and demanded implementation of the medical insurance scheme.
04.06.2021 – Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, again discussed with the Management. It was informed that Management has formed an Internal Committee to bargain the premium amount.
16.07.2021 – Again, Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, discussed with the Management. It was informed that an all union / association meeting would be held on 22.07.2021 to discuss the issue.
22.07.2021 – Meeting between Management / New India Assurance / Representatives of unions & associations held.
02.08.2021 – BSNLEU writes letter regarding deduction of premium amount, in the backdrop of delay in the payment of salary.
09.08.2021 – BSNLEU writes letter regarding problems in giving option in ERP.
09.08.2021 – BSNLEU writes letter regarding list of empanelled hospitals.
17.08.2021 – BSNLEU writes letter regarding non-availability of hospitals in NE-I and NE-II.
(MoU signed between BSNL and New India Assurance is not accepted by the Corporate Office of New India Assurance.)
31.08.2021 – Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, meets CMD BSNL regarding the delay in the implementation of the medical insurance and requests for his personal intervention.
13.09.2021 – Again, Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, discussed about the delay in implementing the medical insurance.
12.10.2021 – BSNLEU writes letter on the delay in implementation of the medical insurance.
02.12.2021 – Again, BSNLEU writes letter to the Management demanding early implementation of the medical insurance.
08.12.2021 - Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, insisted upon the Management to approach other public sector insurance companies for implementing the medical insurance.
10.12.2021 – BSNLEU again discussed with Management, demanding to call for new quotations.
17.12.2021 – BSNLEU again discussed with Management.
11.03.2022 – Once again, BSNLEU discussed with the Management.
09.04.2022 – MoU with Oriental Insurance Company is confirmed.
19.04.2022 – BSNLEU writes letter regarding extension of time limit for giving option.
21.04.2022 – BSNLEU writes letter regarding difficulties in giving options.
01.05.2022 – Medical Insurance Scheme is implemented in BSNL.
05.05.2022 – First employee in AP circle availed treatment under medical insurance for Rs.2,51,000/-.
23.08.2022 – BSNLEU writes letter to the CMD BSNL, demanding that the Management should pay the premium amount for the employees.
The WhatsApp message explains all the pains taken by BSNLEU for implementing the medical insurance for BSNL employees. The CHQ of BSNLEU heartily congratulates Com.Chandrakant,JE, for bringing out all these details to the notice of the employees.
