Central Government removes Alok Verma from the post of CBI Director ? officer probing corruption charges against Rakesh Asthana is transferred to Andaman & Nicobar.
The Central Government has sent the CBI Director, Alok Verma, on leave and has appointed Nageswar Rao as the new Director of the CBI. Earlier, an FIR has been filed against Rakesh Asthana, who is the Special Director of CBI, on charges of huge corruptions. It is alleged that Rakesh Asthana has taken more than Rs.2 crore as bribe from meat exporter, Moin Qureshi. Following this, Alok Verma, CBI Director, was summoned for discussion by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Following this, Alok Verma was removed from the post of CBI Director. Together with this, the CBI officer who has been probing the corruption charges against Rakesh Asthana has also been transferred to Andaman & Nicobar. It is widely seen in the media that, Alok Verma has been removed, only to protect Rakesh Asthana who is an IPS officer belonging to Gujarat.
