Amidst stiff opposition, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announces to put the anti-worker amendment on hold..

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced yesterday, his government’s decision to put on hold further action on the Factories (Tamil Na­du Amendment) Act, 2023, which envisages increasing of the working hours beyond eight­ hour. Earlier, a Joint Committee of all trade unions, comprising CITU, AITUC, INTUC and LPF, had warned of going on a strike on 12.05.2023 to op­pose the increase in working hours. Further, political parties including Congress, MDMK, CPI(M), CPI, VCK, Muslim League, Ma­nithaneya Makkal Katchi and Tamilaga Vazhvuri­mai Katchi have written letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, demanding to give up the “anti­la­ labour” step.
