Air India sold to the TATAs – a sad day for the Indian Public Sector.
Air India, the prestigious public sector company, is sold to the TATAs for Rs.18,000 crore. Before this privatisation, the government converted Air India into a loss making company, through it’s conspiracies. Initially, there were two companies, viz., Air India and Indian Airlines. The UPA government merged both these companies and converted into a single company, called Air India. During this merger process, most of the profit earning “prime routes” were allotted to private airways companies. In addition to this, Air India was pushed into a huge debt, when 111 new planes were unnecessarily bought. All these were done by the notorious Praful Patel, the Civil Aviation Minister, during the UPA regime. All these steps pushed Air India into loss making and also in huge debt. Citing this as the reason, the Modi government has now sold out Air India.
